Borrowed from Classical Persian صاحب (sāhib), from Arabic صَاحِب (ṣāḥib, companion, master). Cognate with Hindi साहिब (sāhib), Gujarati સાહેબ (sāheb), Marathi साहेब (sāheb), Punjabi ਸਾਹਬ (sāhab).
