Etymology
From 大 (dà, “great”) + the transcription of a foreign word, believed to be Pali yona, yonā or Sanskrit यवन (yavana), both of which are appellations for the Greek, derived from Ancient Greek Ἴωνες (Íōnes), plural of Ἴων (Íōn, “Ionian”).
