English[edit]

Description[edit]

Depiction of a knot (but see usage notes).

Etymology[edit]

The first sense is derived from the absence of an emoji or Unicode character for a rope; rather, this symbol specifically represents a knot.

The second and fifth senses are puns, and the third and fourth are metonyms; the former is derived from the use of rope as a method of suicide.

Symbol[edit]

🪢 (Internet slang)

  1. Rope.
  2. (literal, uncommon) Not.
  3. (euphemistic, rare) Filter-avoidance spelling of suicide.
