Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish ـكچ (-gaç, -geç) and sometimes ـكج (-gac, -gec), from Proto-Turkic *-gač, *-geč. In many cases in Modern Turkish the "g" falls off and the suffix presents as -aç/-eç.

   ‎kıs- (“to pinch, to tighten”) + ‎-kaç → ‎kıskaç (“clamp, pincers, claw”)
