Etymology

[edit]

    From auto- + focus.

    Noun

    [edit]

    autofocus (uncountable)

    1. (electronics, photography) A feature of some cameras and other optical systems that allows a correct focus on the subject to be obtained automatically
This camera has autofocus, so it's more expensive.
    2. (graphical user interface) The automatic setting of the focus on an input element.
      • 2013, Jon Raasch, JavaScript Programming: Pushing the Limits
Once the polyfill kicks in, it hijacks the user's input cursor and places it into a different field, a problem that does not exist in the native implementation of autofocus.
