bedrängen
Appearance
German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From a merger of:
- Middle High German bedrangen, bedrengen (both also attested in Early New High German), both from Old High German bidrangōn, from Proto-West Germanic *biþrangōn; and
- Middle High German bedringen (also attested in Early New High German), from Old High German bidringan, from Proto-West Germanic *biþringwan.
All forms ultimatively from Proto-Indo-European *trenkʷ- (“to beat, hew, press”). Equivalent to be- + drängen.
