From Bombe +‎ -en.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /ˈbɔmbən/, [ˈbɔm.bm̩], [-bən]
  • (file)

Verb[edit]

  1. (intransitive) to bomb (detonate explosives)

    NATO bombs wherever it likes.

Usage notes[edit]

  • There is a transitive derivation bebomben, but this is very rare. The normal transitive equivalent is bombardieren, which however tends to imply shelling or dropping of bombs. For a sentence such as “Terrorists have bombed a supermarket” one could say Terroristen haben in einem Supermarkt eine Bombe gezündet.
