- (transitive) to mean, denote, indicate
- Ez mit jelent? ― What does this mean?
- (transitive) to report (to someone -nak/-nek), notify
- Jelentem az esetet az igazgatónak. ― I will report the issue to the director.
- (transitive) to present, pose, involve (e.g. difficulty, trouble, threat, risk, or danger)

This form also occurs when a verbal prefix is separated from the verb:
- jelent (…) ki, ki … jelent ― kijelent
