From Old Galician-Portuguese lobo, from Latin lupus (“wolf”), from an Osco-Umbrian language, from Proto-Italic *lukʷos, metathesis of Proto-Indo-European *wĺ̥kʷos. Doublet of lúpus, a borrowing.
