From Middle High German sündigen, sundigen, alteration (due to Middle High German sundic, sundec, suntic(sinful) > German sündig) of Old High German suntōn, sunteōn. Compare Old Saxon sundiōn(to sin), Old English synġian(to sin), Old Norse syndga(to sin).
