Etymology

From Medieval Latin, from Vulgar Latin *tirō, tirāre, of unknown or uncertain origin, but possibly Germanic. Compare (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Portuguese and (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Spanish tirar, French tirer.
