Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Finnic *ümpärik (compare Estonian ümber, Ingrian ympäär, Karelian ümbari, Veps ümbri, Votic ümper), equivalent to lative ympär + -i, the root ultimately derived from Proto-Germanic *umbi.
