From Medieval Byzantine Greek ἀδειάζω (adeiázō), formed from Ancient Greek ἄδεια (ádeia, no fear; abundance).

Verb

αδειάζω (adeiázo) (past άδειασα, passive —)

  1. (transitive) clear out, pour out, decant, unload
    Αδειάστε το περιεχόμενο στην κατσαρόλαAdeiáste to periechómeno stin katsarólaEmpty contents into the pan.
  2. (intransitive) to be empty
    Το σχολείο αδειάζει το καλοκαίρι· τα παιδιά πάνε διακοπές.
    To scholeío adeiázei to kalokaíri; ta paidiá páne diakopés.
    The school is empty in the summer; the children are on vacation.
  3. (colloquial) be available
    -Έλα να με βοηθήσεις. -Δεν αδειάζω, έχω πολλή δουλειά
    -Éla na me voïthíseis. -Den adeiázo, écho pollí douleiá
    -Come help me! -I am not free, I have too much work [to do].

Conjugation

  • Passive voice forms (αδειάζομαι, etc) are disupted. Some lexicographers do not mention passive[1] [2], others suggest it.[3]
