Etymology[edit]

From Old East Slavic рѧдъ ‎(rędŭ), from Proto-Slavic *rędъ. Cognate with Old Church Slavonic рѧдъ ‎(rędŭ) (translating Ancient Greek τάξις ‎(táxis), διαδοχή ‎(diadokhḗ)), Serbo-Croatian ре̑д/rȇd, Czech řád, Slovak rád.
