Etymology[edit]

From Old East Slavic рѧдъ (rędŭ), Old Church Slavonic рѩдъ (rjędŭ) (translates τάξις (táksis), διαδοχή (diadokhḗ)), from Proto-Slavic *rędъ. Cognate with South Slavic (Serbo-Croatian) ред, West Slavic (Czech, Slovak) rad.
