Mongolian

Etymology

From Proto-Mongolic *sana-, from Proto-Turkic *sāna- (to count, determine) < *sān (number, count) or directly from *sān- (to be counted, regarded) all of which are ultimately derived from *sā- (to think, count, consider).

Compare Dongxiang sana, Turkish saymak (to count, regard), san (reputation), sanmak (to suppose, reckon), Kyrgyz саноо (sanoo, to count).
