Inherited from Proto-Turkic *ārï (wasp, bee); cognate with Azerbaijani arı, Chuvash тӗкӗлтура (tĕk̬ĕlt̬ura), Kazakh ара (ara), Kyrgyz аары (aarı), Turkmen ary, Tuvan ары (arı), Uyghur ھەرە (here), Uzbek ari and Yakut ыҥырыа (ïŋïrïa).
