From Middle Persian [Term?] ŠPYL / wyh (weh, “better, good”), from Old Persian 𐎺𐎢 (vahu, “good”). Related to Old Armenian վեհ (veh, “sublime”), an Iranian borrowing. However it from *h₁wésus (“good”).
