Etymology

First attested in c. 1635 as Middle Hindi ہَفْتَہ (hafta), borrowed from Classical Persian هَفْتَه (hafta). By surface analysis, ہَفْت (haft, “seven”) +‎ ہ (h). Doublet of سپتاہ (saptāh). Cognate with Punjabi ہَفْتَہ (haftah) / ਹਫ਼ਤਾ (haftā), Sindhi هَفْتو (hafto), Nepali हप्ता (haptā), Bengali হপ্তা (hopta).

     There are many such Indian, Iranian and Turkish poets who have composed five or seven such parts. This is where [the forms of] Khamsas and Haftas were founded
