Etymology

From Middle English wykely (adverb), equivalent to week +‎ -ly (adverbial suffix) or week +‎ -ly (adjectival suffix). Compare Dutch wekelijks (weekly), German wöchentlich (weekly), Danish ugentlig (weekly), Norwegian ukentlig (weekly), Icelandic vikulega (weekly), Swedish veckovis (weekly).
