Etymology

    Inherited from Old Hindi साँधना (sām̐dhanā, to join) with influence from सानना (sānanā, to join). The words are from Prakrit संधइ (saṃdhaï) / Sanskrit संदधाति (saṃdadhā́ti, combines) and Sanskrit संनयति (sáṃnayati, mixes), respectively. Cognate with Gujarati સાંધવું (sā̃dhvũ), Marathi सांधणे (sāndhṇe), Sindhi سَنڌَڻُ (sãdhaṇu) / संधणु, Odia ସାନ୍ଧିବା (sāndhibā), ସାନିବା (sānibā), Sinhalese අනනවා (ananawā).
