Etymology 1
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *suHnúṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *suHnúš (compare Avestan 𐬵𐬎𐬥𐬎 (hunu)), from Proto-Indo-European *suHnús (compare Gothic 𐍃𐌿𐌽𐌿𐍃 (sunus), Lithuanian sūnùs, Old Church Slavonic сꙑнъ (synŭ), Old English sunu (whence English son)).
