Borrowed from Classical Persian پرده (parda), from Middle Persian pltk' (pardag), ultimately from Proto-Iranian *partakah, from *partah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *paltas, from Proto-Indo-European *pol-tos, from *pel- (to cover, wrap). Doublet of પટ (paṭ). Compare Bengali পর্দা (porda), Hindustani پردہ / परदा (pardā), Malayalam പർദ്ദ (paṟdda).
