Etymology

[edit]

Borrowed from Pali parihāra (taking care (of); looking after; maintaining, literally carrying around), from pari (around; about) + hāra (carrying; holding; bearing); ultimately from Sanskrit परिहार (parihāra, idem), from परि (pari) + हार (hāra).

By surface analysis, บริ (brì) +‎ หาร (hǎan).

Cognate with Old Khmer parihāra, parihār, paribhāra; Modern Khmer បរិហារ (bɑɑrihaa); Lao ບໍຣິຫານ (bǭ ri hān).
