Etymology[edit]

From Pali amata (nectar; ambrosia, literally not dead; undead; undying). Cognate with Khmer អមត (ʼâmôt). Compare Sanskrit अमृत (amṛta), from which Thai อมฤต (à-má-rít) is derived.
