Derivation possibly unknown. By surface analysis, 取り (to₂ri, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of verb 取る (to₂ru), “to take”) +‎ 鎧ふ (yo₂ro₂pu, “to arm, wear”).
