Phono-semantic compound (形聲/形声, OC *sʰraːms) : semantic 心 (“heart”) + phonetic 韱 (OC *sem).
Etymology
Clipping of 懺摩 (MC tsrhaemH ma, “repentance”), from Sanskrit क्षमा (kṣamā, “patience; forbearance; indulgence”).
