Etymology[edit]

From lower bigrade 見ゆ. miyu → miyuru → miyeru → mieru The irrealis of 見る ‎(miru, see) mi + "(grammar) potential".

見える ‎(ichidan conjugation, hiragana みえる, romaji mieru)

  1. (having seeing ability): able to see (ja: 目見える、目見える)
     (あに)眼鏡無 (めがねな)しでもはっきり ()える
    Ani wa megane nashi de mo hakkiri mieru.
    My elder brother is able to see something distinctly without glasses.
  2. (within sight): visible (ja: 目見える)
     (みず)無色 (むしょく)だが ()える
    Mizu wa mushoku da ga mieru.
    Water is colorless but visible.
  3. (easily predictable): apparent (ja: 目見える)
    この時点 (じてん)結果 (けっか) ()える
    Kono jiten de kekka ga mieru.
    The result is apparent at this circumstance.
  4. (appear likely): seem
     (かれ)及第 (きゅうだい)するように ()える
    Kare wa kyūdai suru yō ni mieru.
    He seems to succeed.
