From Portuguese sabão, Early Modern Spanish jabón (from Old Spanish xabon) or Arabic صَابُون (ṣābūn), likely via Malay sabun or Tagalog sabon. Ultimately from Latin sāpōnem, accusative of sāpō, from Proto-Germanic *saipǭ.
