  1. Used to form the present passive infinitive of regular verbs, except the third conjugation's ones.
    First conjugation: amārī (to be loved) — from amāre (to love)
    Second conjugation: monērī (to be advised) — from monēre (to advise)
    Third conjugation: dūcī (to be led) — from dūcere (to lead)
    Fourth conjugation: audīrī (to be heard) — from audīre (to hear)

Usage notes

  • To form it: Take the present active infinitive, remove the final -e, and add ; in the case of 3rd conjugation -ere is removed).
  • The ending appears as -ārī, -ērī, , or -īrī depending on the thematic vowel, but the final vowel is always .
  • In deponent verbs, the form has active meaning (e.g. loquī = "to speak").
