Proto-Slavic
Etymology
Lua error: Module:checkparams:215: The template Template:PIE root does not use the parameter(s):
2=dʰews
Please see Module:checkparams for help with this warning.
(deprecated template usage) From Proto-Indo-European *dʰews-, an s-extension of *dʰewh₂- (“to smoke”). The coda -x- in Slavic results from the RUKI-rule. Cognate with Lithuanian daũsos f pl (“air”), Gothic 𐌳𐌹𐌿𐍃 (dius), Old High German tior (“animal”) (both from Proto-Germanic *deuzą).
Noun
