Proto-Slavic

Etymology

Lua error: Module:checkparams:215: The template Template:PIE root does not use the parameter(s):

2=dʰews

Please see Module:checkparams for help with this warning.

(deprecated template usage) From Proto-Indo-European *dʰews-, an s-extension of *dʰewh₂- (to smoke). The coda -x- in Slavic results from the RUKI-rule. Cognate with Lithuanian daũsos f pl (air), Gothic 𐌳𐌹𐌿𐍃 (dius), Old High German tior (animal) (both from Proto-Germanic *deuzą).

*dȗxъ m[1][2]
