From Pali bhāga (“part; portion; fraction; share; etc”); ultimately from Sanskrit भाग (bhāga, idem); probably via Old Khmer bhāga (“luck, fortune; part, region, division, section; portion, lot; etc”). Cognate with Modern Khmer ភាគ (phiək); Lao ພາກ (phāk); Burmese ဘက် (bhak).
