Borrowed from French blanquette, from Provençal blanqueto, a diminutive of blanc (“white”), derived, through Late Latin and Vulgar Latin *blancus, from Frankish *blank (“gleaming, white, blinding”), from Proto-Germanic *blankaz (“white, bright, blinding”), from Proto-Indo-European *bhleg- (“to shine”).
