    From Ottoman Turkish طراق (tarak), itself from Proto-Turkic *tarak (comb) and equivalent to tara- (to comb) +‎ -ak. Cognate with Kazakh тарақ (taraq), Bashkir тараҡ (taraq), Kyrgyz тарак (tarak), Tatar тарак (taraq), Azerbaijani daraq, Turkmen darak, Yakut тараах (taraaq), etc.
