Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Slavic *veztì (stem *vez-), from Proto-Indo-European *wéǵʰeti (to be transporting), *weǵʰ- (to transport). Cognate with ‎Lithuanian vèžti, ‎German wiegen and wägen, Ancient Greek ἔχω (ékhō), Latin vehō and Sanskrit वहति (váhati).
