[edit]From Middle High German zwīvelen, zwīveln, zwībelen, from Old High German zwīfalen, zwīfalōn, from Proto-West Germanic *twīflijan, *twīflōn, from Proto-Germanic *twīflijaną. Equivalent to Zweifel + -n.
