Etymology 1
[edit]Related to جَنّ (jann, “covering, protecting”), the sense of a paradise being borrowed from Classical Syriac ܓܰܢܬܳܐ (gannəṯā) or Middle Persian. Compare Hebrew גַּן (gan), Aramaic גִּנָּא (ginnā), Ugaritic 𐎂𐎐 (gn).
