Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Sanskrit अङ्कयति (aṅkayati), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hankáyati, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂onk-éye-ti (to cause to curve). Cognate with Assamese আঁক (ãk), Marathi आखणे (ākhṇe), Bengali আঁকা (ãka), and Gujarati આંકવું (ā̃kavũ).
