Inherited from Proto-Southwestern Tai *rɯənᴬ⁴ (house), from Proto-Tai *rɤːnᴬ (house). Cognate with Southern Thai เริน, Isan เฮือน, Lao ເຮືອນ (hư̄an), Northern Thai ᩁᩮᩬᩥᩁ (hɯan⁴) or ᩁᩮᩥ᩠ᨶ (hɤɤn⁴), Khün ᩁᩮᩨ᩠ᨶ, ᦵᦣᦲᧃ (hoen), Tai Dam ꪹꪭꪙ (ꞌhướn), Tai Dón ꪭꪷꪙ, Shan ႁိူၼ်း (hóen), Tai Nüa ᥞᥫᥢᥰ (höen), Ahom 𑜍𑜢𑜤𑜃𑜫 (rün), Bouyei raanz, Zhuang ranz, Zuojiang Zhuang rwenz.
