Glyph origin[edit]
Phono-semantic compound (形聲): phonetic 化 + semantic 十 (“stalk and leaves”). The top component in 華 has been simplified to a phonetic element 化.
This character first appeared in the 1956 Chinese Character Simplification Scheme by the People's Republic of China and is not known to have existed prior to that.
