Phono-semantic compound (形聲/形声, OC *ljaːɡ) : semantic 氵 (“water”) + phonetic 夕 (OC *ljaːɡ).
Etymology
From 夕 (OC *ljaːɡ, “evening”). Compare 潮 (OC *r'ew, “morning tide; tide”).
Pronunciation
