Learnedly, from Ancient Greek ἐκτελῶ ( ektelô , “ complete, bring to an end ” ) , contracted form of ἐκτελέω ( ekteléō ) from ἐκ ( ek , “ from, out of ” ) + τέλος ( télos , “ completion, end ” ) & a semantic loan from French exécuter . Sense "perform" developed in Medieval Greek. [ 1] [ 2]
