English to Latin translation request

[edit]

Hy all!

I'd really appreciate it if someone could translate this into latin: 'The night is darkest before the dawn'

Thanks in advance

In nocte est nigerrimus ante aurora. —Stephen (Talk) 06:46, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Does it mean any different like this: Ante aurora nigerrimus in nocta est? Its for a tattoo, and it sounds better like this to me :)

nocte (not nocta). Different word order, but it means the same thing. —Stephen (Talk) 09:30, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

English to Georgian: must, have to; should; want (to); need (to)

[edit]

All or most of these are lacking Georgian translations or entries.

It seems that in Georgian they all translate to უნდა (unda). want to the conjugated forms and the others to the fixed form that's the same as the 3rd person singular present. For this question I'm focusing only on when in English these verbs are followed by another verb. I know at least need translates to another Georgian verb when followed by a noun. — hippietrail (talk) 10:00, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

English to Scots Gaelic

[edit]

I would like the verse Romans 13:4 translated please. I understand it is long, but any help would be great. Or just the phrase "you who do evil, be afraid". Thank you!

The Bible has been translated into Scots Gaelic many times. One translation of Romans 13:4 may be found here: "Oir is esan seirbhiseach Dhe chum maith dhuit. Ach ma ni thu an t-olc, biodh eagal ort; oir cha'n ann gu dìomhain a tha e giùlan a' chlaidheimh: oir is e seirbhiseach Dhé e, 'na dhioghaltair feirge air an ti an ni olc." I've underlined the part that means "if you do evil, be afraid". —Angr 10:22, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

      • NEW***

Looking to translate the following: "God gives life, I just deliver it" (For a friend who works as a midwife) Any help appreicated!!

ANSWER: "God gives life, I just deliver it" translates best as "Tha'n tiarna thoirt ré, tha mise direach thoir i seachad." An Tiarna means 'the Lord' but it flows better than the word for God which is 'Dia' or 'Dhia'. If you want use God then it would be. "Tha Dhia a thoirt ré, tha mise direach thoir i seachad."--Ticklepixie (talk) 13:39, 10 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

English to Latin translation

[edit]

Hi, Please could someone translate "Always loved, Always remembered" into Latin for me?

Is it a male or a female who will be always loved and always remembered? —Angr 09:08, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, it's a man, my step-father if that makes any difference.

I'm sorry for your loss. I'd say Semper amatus, semper in memoria. It literally means "Always loved, always in (my/our) memory" since Latin doesn't really have an adjective/past participle that means "remembered". —Angr 10:20, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for your help.

Live with no regrets, love with no ends/boundaries

[edit]

I have been doing countless research on Latin forums and translation machines. I'm planning to get this inked permanently and I do not want any mistakes. I have seen different version on how the words are placed. Any professional advice is appreciated.

1. Vive sine paenitentia, sine ama finibus.

2. Sine vive paenitentia, sine ama finibus.

Thank you

The second one seems a little confusing to me, I like the first better. I would choose this order:
Vive sine paenitentia, sine finibus ama. This order places the focus in vive and ama. Literally it reads "Live without regret, without boundaries love". —Stephen (Talk) 02:06, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am searching for a latin and a spanish traslation for this phrase: "the sinning is the best part of the repentance" Please if anyone knows the correct translation let me know cause i dont trust the machine traslation!Thank you :)

In Spanish, you could say it two ways (at least):

La mejor parte del arrepentimiento es pecar.
Latin:
Pars optima paenitentiae peccans est. —Stephen (Talk) 00:40, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

w:Laissez les bons temps rouler says it's a Cajun French expression, not sure if it works in European French too. I think we need a native speaker to answer that. Mglovesfun (talk) 22:38, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

English to Manchu and Japanese

[edit]

Good morning to all, i'm here to ask to someone to help in translating a sentence into manchu language and into japanese ones. if possible, i'd prefer to have the sentence into graphics (no the pronunciation). So the sentence is this one:

"Some words when spoken cannot be taken back"

thank you in advance to all and the help Elena

I don’t think anyone here knows Manchu. For Japanese:
いくつかの単語については、口の中でされた後、元に戻すことはできません。 (doublecheck it, please) —Stephen (Talk) 11:24, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, Manchu will be hard to get, as the Manchu language seems to be nearly extinct.
An alternate possible Japanese rendering:

yes, i knew that Manchu was hard, but i've tried!!! thank you very much for your quickly reply

English to Irish Gaelic translations

[edit]

Hi there,

I would like to get a very close passage toy heart translated into Irish Gaelic for a tattoo

Passage

"lord keep my feet on the ground"

Any assistant would be greatly appreciated

I don’t know what "very close passage toy heart" means. The phrase is:
A Thiarna, a coimeád ar mo chosa ar an talamh. (doublecheck it and get other opinions) —Stephen (Talk) 11:04, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think that's a typo for a "a passage very close to my heart". I'd say "A Thiarna, coimeád mo chosa ar an talamh." Imperatives aren't preceded by "a" and direct objects aren't preceded by "ar". —Angr 15:50, 9 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Phonetic Japanese to English

"Keikaina Ashi"

It could be written using several different combinations of characters, each way with a different meaning. I think the most likely, since I have no context to go by, is 軽快な足, which means "nimble feet". —Stephen (Talk) 07:50, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the help, however I was able to remembered how I came across it(Making a fighting Style for an RP), and was able to backtrack to how I found it, did some word translations from english to Phonetic Japanese and got it. The proper translation is "Nimble Paw". Thanks again for the help ^^ 76.69.114.60 08:16, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

translate "God is Love" into Khmer script

[edit]

I would like to create a banner with the words "God is Love" from 1 John 4:8. I have a template for the banner and would like to have "God is Love" in english and then again in Khmer below that.

Thank you! Jennifer

There's a Khmer Bible online here. - -sche (discuss) 17:44, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Cool! And 1 John 4 is here. And 1 John 4:8 says: រីឯអ្នកដែលមិនចេះស្រឡាញ់ មិនបានស្គាល់ព្រះជាម្ចាស់ទេ ដ្បិតព្រះជាម្ចាស់ជាសេចក្ដីស្រឡាញ់។. Which part of that means "God is love" I leave to people who actually know Khmer to figure out. —Angr 21:09, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, that says: ព្រះជាម្ចាស់ជាសេចក្ដីស្រឡាញ់។ (preah-jie-mchah jie səchkdəy-srɑlañ) = God is love. —Stephen (Talk) 02:07, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
