[edit]Uncertain. Most likely from Vulgar Latin *traucem, from Latin trāducem, accusative of trādux (“vine branch”). Alternatively, from Latin thyrsus, from Ancient Greek θύρσος (thúrsos). Cognates include Aragonese troz, Spanish trozo and probably Italian tozzo.
