German
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From two separate but related verbs. From Middle High German verwīzen, Old High German firwīzan, from Proto-West Germanic *frawītan, from Proto-Germanic *frawītaną and the second verb from Middle High German verwīsen, from unattested Old High German *firwīsan, from Proto-West Germanic *frawīsijan, from Proto-Germanic *frawīsijaną. By surface analysis, ver- + weisen.
Pronunciation
