From Koine Greek παθαίνω (pathaínō), from Ancient Greek ἔπαθον (épathon) the aorist of πάσχω (páskhō, to suffer).

  1. (transitive, rarely intransitive) to happen to (something negative), be wrong with, suffer, undergo
    Τι έπαθες;
    Ti épathes;
    What happened to you? / What's wrong with you?
    Έπαθα ατύχημα με το αμάξι.
    Épatha atýchima me to amáxi.
    I had an accident with the car.
    (literally, “An accident happened to me with the car.”)
