Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀯𑀲𑀤𑀺 (vasadi), from Sanskrit वसति (vasati, dwell, live), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hwásati, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂wéseti. Compare Punjabi ਵਸਣਾ (vasṇā) / وَسݨا (vasṇā).
