Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *yáHnam, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *yáHnam, from Proto-Indo-European *yéh₂-nom, from *yeh₂- (“to go”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬫𐬁𐬌𐬙𐬌 (yāiti), Proto-Slavic *ěxati (“to travel”).
