Borrowed from Old Khmer ករ (kara, hand; finger); ultimately from Pali kara (producing, causing, forming, making, doing; maker, doer) or Sanskrit कर (kara, doer, maker, causer; doing, making, producing, causing). Cognate with Khmer ករ (kɑɑ); Lao ກອນ (kǭn). Related to การ (gaan), กรรม (gam), กรณี (gɔɔ-rá-nii), กรณีย์.
