Etymology[edit]

Ultimately from Sanskrit निम्बू (nimbū). For Taiwanese Min Nan lê-bóng and Hakka lê-móng, via Japanese 檸檬(レモン) (remon), from English lemon. For Philippine Hokkien, directly from English lemon.
