[edit]The "green tea" sense is coined by Yamamoto Kahei of the Yamamotoyama tea company in 1835.
From Middle Chinese elements 玉 (gyoku, “gem, jade”) + 露 (ro, “dew”). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
